Our lecture venue
The Society has adopted City College in Pelham Street as our venue for lectures. It stands in the heart of Brighton and on the edge of the North Laine. It is served by the many buses that run along the Steine and is in easy walking distance of the station. Limited free on-street parking is available in the area after 6.00pm, while the College’s own car park, accessed from Whitecross Street, can be used for a fixed fee after 5.00pm and the covered Trafalgar Street car park (under Theobald House and actually in Whitecross Street).
City College offers good wheelchair access. The main lecture hall is spacious and lends itself to a number of alternative seating formats. It has excellent equipment.
Members can gather in the foyer or use the refectory next to the lecture theatre as a meeting place before the lectures. The refectory is open until 8.00 pm and serves hot drinks for about £1, sandwiches for £2 and main dishes for about £4.
We have also adopted a preferred post-lecture watering hole, where members can talk to the speaker over a drink and meet the Society’s officers and trustees. It's proving very popular, so do join us there, whether or not you've been able to attend the lecture.
