Brighton and Hove City Council has approved an application for a development on the site of Court Farm, which lies to the North East of Toads Hole Valley, where a larger development is planned. Court Farm lies close to the roundabout at the top of George VI Avenue.
The 69 unit scheme comprises a mix of one, two and three bed homes with parking for 107 cars and 132 bicycles. The architects, Conran and Partners, claim that the 40% affordable housing element will not be visually distinctive or separate from the private market units on the site and will be built to the same standards of design and quality.
The development is low (3-4 storeys) and consists of four separate buildings arranged around a series of open spaces.
The Society welcomes this development as it represents the kind of housing density (71 units per hectare) we have been advocating for new developments of this type. This could form a good precedent for the Toads Hole Valley and other urban fringe sites.
