Saltdean Lido needs your help

Saltdean Lido, which was recently upgraded from Grade II to Grade II*, is in the running for a £5,000 grant from the Co-op – but it urgently needs your votes if it is to win the much-needed funding, as it is currently in second place in the race for the grant that will be awarded in southern England.

Voting closes at midnight on 29 May, so please go to http://www.co-operative.coop/join-the-revolution/friends-of-saltdean-lido and register your vote. The Freinds of Saltdean Lido will use the money to set up a structured volunteer programme to harness and develop the skills that will be needed to turn the lido into a thriving centre for the local community.

Saltdean was the first lido in the country to achieve listed status 24 years ago and regularly features in guide to the best outdoor pools in the UK but it has been in serious jeopardy since its private leaseholders announced plans to demolish parts of the site and build residential units instead.

The Save Saltdean Lido campaign has been working with Sir Terence Conran’s architectural practice to develop an alternative plan, which would include heating the pool using renewable energy sources, a café/bistro in the rotunda, meeting rooms for community groups and private hire and new facilities such as a volleyball court and children’s play area.
